When we’re talking about our bodies, energy is just another word for “calories.” Your energy balance is the number of calories ingested through eating and drinking compared to the number calories burned through physical activity. What you eat and drink is ENERGY IN. What you burn through physical activity is ENERGY OUT. You burn a certain number of calories just from natural body functions like your heart beating, breathing air and digesting food. You also burn a certain number of calories through your daily routine like walking from the parking lot, shopping, etc.
ENERGY IN > ENERGY OUT = GAIN WEIGHT
ENERGY OUT > ENERGY IN = LOSE WEIGHT
When you have more ENERGY IN than ENERGY OUT you gain weight because the body stores the extra energy (calories). On the other hand, when you have more ENERGY OUT than ENERGY IN you lose weight because the body has to burn stored energy (calories) to meet the demand. Aging has a tremendous impact on our metabolism. Metabolic syndrome affects 44% of the U.S. population older than age 50, with the percentage of women having the syndrome greater than that of men. This impact of aging is seen in most populations around the world. To instantly find out the energy (caloric) needs of your body as it is today, try our free metabolic calculator.

Thanks for the free book and calculator!
The calculator is a great tool and it’s free! Thanks.
It should be so straightforward that concepts like this we shouldn’t even have to think about. But unfortunately with today’s plugged-in and lethargic lifestyle many of us forgot the importance of getting some of that ENERGY OUT. Our metabolism can only do so much without our help! Great insight and great tool!
